White Paper Synopsis:
This paper supplements the chapter in the manual on risk assessment. It provides more comprehensive coverage of when and how risk management activities are undertaken during DSDM projects.
Risk management starts at the outset of a DSDM project with the application of the DSDM Suitability/Risk List but this is obviously only the tip of the iceberg when considering wider project and business risks.
To ensure that all risks are identified and addressed effectively by the right people, there needs to be two levels of risk management: at the project level and at the timebox level. These are managed differently and by different people but their integration is essential. The paper shows how this can be achieved.
All the roles and responsibilities relating to risk are described in the paper from identification, through mitigation to reporting.
Two appendices provide risk checklists one to be applied on all DSDM projects and one which is specifically aimed at the risks to manage when outsourcing development to a third party. The latter also includes some suggestions for additional roles and responsibilities.
